Better water through design
Water Solutions Inc designs water systems for farm, ranch, and estate types of properties. These are properties which are too big to be a single family house, yet often smaller than a municipal water system. While pipe sizes reflect the smaller volume, our standards stay robust. This means the water is safe to drink, municipal stainless steel hydrants specified where appropriate and system reliability is assured.
A few examples show the types of projects we do:
-
An 8,000 acre ranch in Northern California had two miles of leaking pipe, three dams and multiple springs. All failed. The estate/cattle ranch required water infrastructure for domestic consumption, fire suppression, landscape irrigation and a pond. The property posed unique challenges due to its insufficient groundwater supply, remote location, and extreme elevation changes.
Water sources were assessed, prioritized by cost and quality. Stream intakes were designed to be self cleaning and allow for winter storm flow. Sediment is removed with settling tanks and pathogen reduction is accomplished with ultraviolet disinfection. Storage was designed to indicate system status by dropping pressure as storage

It may be one of the more stunning estates in the San Francisco Bay Area, but with no water, all the landscape was at risk. Water Solutions Inc. mapped the bedrock through the estate and located a steady subterranean flow which eliminated trucked water. This solution paid off in less than two years and was one quarter the cost of alternative proposals.
After drilling five dry holes, the owner of this seventy acre ranch hired Water Solutions Inc to assist, by simply drilling on the other side of a fault running through the property we obtained greater than 100 gallons per minute. Due to the remote location, we designed and oversaw the installation of underground water storage and municipal fire hydrants. The owner desired a “self service” well that wasn’t dependent on outside contractors so a flexible downhole well pipe was specified.
-
A 95 year old estate with 24 failed springs, several miles of rotted steel pipe, left the property with almost no water and nothing safe about what they did have. A replacement plan restored the three pools, three fountains and ten bedroom house with both sufficient water for fire protection and potable water throughout.
-
A Central California estate was using water from a stream which yielded positive E. Coli bacteria tests.
We designed and oversaw the installation of a new “low visual impact” stream intake, slow sand filtration system and wildfire suppression system.
This house was the only house in the area to survive a 2009 wildfire which burned eight thousand acres.
-
A steep deep ravine separated a new well from the house until we designed a suspended crossing which eliminated stream encroachment, was simple to install and cost ⅓ of alternative proposals.
-
Fifth Crow is a Community Supported Agriculture farm requiring potable water for both the staff and washing vegetables.
Water Solutions Inc. designed a stream collection, transmission pipe, slow sand filtration and storage system, all using gravity and no electricity.
By exceeding federal guidelines for potable water, the farm is ahead of regulatory compliance, has safer produce and worker health is improved. Our design allows the farm to install the system in stages during the off season, using their staff.
-
Built in an area deemed an extreme fire risk, this large new construction, required 70,000 gallons of storage and 1,500 gpm fire flow.
Water Solutions Inc designed and supervised the install of below ground storage supplying a diesel powered fire pump, a six inch looped water main delivering water to stainless steel municipal hydrants, the house and grounds.

This Coastal California Farm, known for produce sold across the U.S. had nitrate contaminated groundwater. We designed a State Approved treatment system.
-
Water Solutions Inc was able to diagnose and supervise the repair of a very large sediment filter system which had control valve issues. The total rehabilitation cost was one tenth the replacement cost.

For twenty five years this stunning ocean estate has made 7,000 gallons a day from ocean water using a venerable Reverse Osmosis system designed with the primary goal of reliability. With more than 51 million gallons of pure fresh water produced, this record speaks for itself.photos: Rick Read

Woodland Farms needed quality water to feed Pekin ducklings. Water Solutions Inc. designed a cost effective water treatment system which was installed by the on-site staff. Woodland Farms purchases low quality irrigation water, which limited duck growth and health. The water treatment process includes chlorine, filtration and ozone. Booster pumps are protected from power issues and low water with motor protectors. The new water system quality is very good and the cost was 1/3 that of a package plant.
